AUPROTEX: Contact antimicrobial protection for tactical professional clothing
Project code: RSF-0058 Applied
Call: RSF-IND
Financed by: Jožef Stefan Institute Duration: 2025 - 2025
Principal Investigator: The project is part of a collaboration between the company UNI&FORMA and the Advanced materials department at the Jožef Stefan Institute (JSI). The project seeks to address a pressing challenge for the company, namely the development of durable antimicrobial textiles tailored for tactical clothing. We will try to develop new functional textile by achieving a stable deposition of an active antimicrobial component, functionalized gold nanoparticles (f-nAu), onto the first layer of the garment.
Within the project, we aim to raise the Technology Readiness Level (TRL) of the existing patented technology (owned by JSI, EP2863751) and increase the potential for licensing the innovation.
The concept of using antimicrobial functionalized and inert gold nanoparticles is novel to the market and represents a safe alternative to current inadequate textile treatment methods. The main advantage of the new technology lies in its surface chemistry approach, which enables antipathogenic action without releasing or indirectly generating any active substances. The composite material and the new stable textile binding technology have global market potential, with possible applications across various industries (e.g., healthcare, tourism — such as bed linens and towels, home textiles — such as furniture covers and carpets).L045: Development of Lambda 045 Foam Glass Recipe
