Fundamental Research Programme

Advanced Inorganic Materials and Nanotechnologies (P2-0091)

Advanced Inorganic Materials and Nanotechnologies is a fundamental research program awarded by the Slovenian Research and Innovation Agency (ARIS) to the Department for Advanced Materials at the Jožef Stefan Institute. It provides long-term support for in-depth scientific research aimed at developing next-generation materials and technologies.

The program focuses on the development of advanced inorganic materials with novel functional properties for applications in electronics, energy, and medicine. Special emphasis is placed on the controlled synthesis of materials at the atomic and microstructural level, using cutting-edge techniques such as electron microscopy, high-resolution X-ray diffraction, and spectroscopy.

The main research areas include:

  • Functionalization of silicon for electronic applications,
  • Development of materials for photoelectrochemical water splitting and thermal insulation,
  • New antimicrobial and biocompatible materials for medical applications.

The program supports the goals of sustainable development, the European Green Deal, and the national Smart Specialisation Strategy, with a strong focus on collaboration with industry, environmental protection, and improving public health.
