Dr. Xiang Ming Chen is Chair Professor of Materials Science, Director of Institute of Materials Physics in the School of Materials Science and Engineering, Zhejiang University, Hangzhou, China.
Dr. Chen was awarded BS degree in materials science and engineering by Central South Institute of Mineral and Metallurgy (Currently Central South University), China in 1981, and Doctor of Engineering in materials science and metallurgy by The University of Tokyo, Japan in 1991. He spent 3 years as a research scientist in Yokohama R&D Laboratories, Furukawa Electric Co. Ltd., Japan, before he became an associate professor in Department of Materials Science and Engineering, Zhejiang University in 1994. He was promoted full professor in Department of Materials Science and Engineering, Zhejiang University in 1996.
He is author or co-author for over 360 peer-reviewed papers, and has 15 Chinese patents and 1 US patent with his name. He is a winner of National Science Foundation for Distinguished Young Scholars, China (2000); and a winner of Okazaki Kiyoshi Award, Japan (2007). He received the title of Professor of Cheung Kong Scholars Programme in 2003. He is a fellow of The American Ceramic Society (2013), and associate editor of Journal of The American Ceramic Society since 2007.
His current research interests cover microwave dielectric ceramics, multiferroic materials, ferroelectric and relaxor ferroelectric materials, as well as dielectric ceramics for energy applications.
