Saturday, March 23rd 2019

Each year at the end of March, traditional Stefan’s Days take place at the Institute, marking the birthday (March 24) of the great Slovenian scientist, Jožef Stefan. In the scope of Stefan’s Days, Center for Technology Transfer and Innovation – in cooperation with the Institute’s research departments – organizes the Open Day. Visitors can choose from a number of visit programmes and look at the laboratories at Jamova cesta and at the Reactor Center where the tours are enabled and organized by the Nuclear Training Center (ICJT).

At Advanced Materials Department visitors were briefly presented the areas in which individual research teams operate, trying to establish the connection between subject of research and everyday life. We presented several techniques of synthesis (synthesis in solid, hydrothermal synthesis, a sol-gel, and pulsed laser deposition), which are used for sample preparation. We also presented a number of methods for the characterization of materials. We conducted three experiments with shorter thermoelectric materials, which have been particularly interesting for the younger visitors.
